The Memory of Old Wounds

Every day I am
further and further away

from a moment of wounding

but I carry with me
memory of the moments still:

the ache in my elbow,
dislocated at Whistler six years ago

the scar on my arm,
pushed through a window when I was six years old

the holes in my soul,
torn by six former lovers.

Some lovers I left
and some lovers left me

always there was displacement

where once was love
are now places for the memory of love.
