NATO PLANS TO SEND STRONG GROUND FORCE TO YUGOSLAVIA - RUSSIAN
MINISTER

MOSCOW, March 25 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry
has at its disposal operational reports on NATO preparation for a
ground operation in Yugoslavia, Defense Minister Igor Sergeyev
said on Thursday in Moscow.
He said the NATO ground force to be sent to Yugoslavia will
number 22,000 men.
"We also know that the Yugoslav army is fully ready to repel
the aggression in its territory. And there are no doubts that
there will be proper resistance," Sergeyev said.
Among the steps Russia may take, he named the withdrawal
from international sanctions against Belgrade. "There have been
such proposals," he said. He confirmed the existence of a
suggestion to change the relationship in the framework of the
Russia-NATO permanent council. Numerous other proposals have also
been put forward, but decisions on them will be made by President
Boris Yeltsin, Sergeyev said.
