Luciano:If you remember Dell's selective use of channels intensified somewhat when Compaq and others announced that they would try and muscle their way into Dell territory (aka 'emulating the Dell model').This hybrid model being adopted by CPQ and others infuriated may dedicated channels and Dell promptly decided to take advantage of this opportunity.

It is like this, when someone attacks your territory you not only defend your territory with all your might but you mount a counter offensive and hit hard especially you hit at where the enemy has just created a weak point,in this case the pissed of channels. That is the way I see it.

Mark my words 5fer will be fired!

Just curious: why do you want him fired?

Have you ever heard of the phrase:

Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.

or

Know thyself, know thine enemy (Sun Tzu)

If 5fer is doing a bad job at CPQ, wouldn't it be more of an advantage for its competitors to keep him there, where everyone can keep tabs on him and take advantage of his weaknesses, instead of having him replaced by perhaps a more capable CEO?

I believe that's what the Bush Administration did with Saddam. Keep him weak, but keep him in place, because the vacuum that would be created may be filled by a potentially greater threat that is not easily assessed.
