OEM contracts always have a minimum purchase requirement with financial remedies when not met. Also, cross licensing has been the one area in the PC business where IBM has made money and it is mostly to the bottom line. Barron's, over the weekend, disclosed IBM lost over 1 billion in the PC business but keep in mind the IP revenues, the OEM revenues and other non-PC direct revenues do not accrue to the PC line of business but are the indirect result of the PC development effort. So PCs themselves lost money but money was made in other areas.
