Tellabs Introduces TITAN(R) 4500GS Global Services Delivery System Flexible System Enables Service Providers to Seamlessly Deliver Global Services Over SONET and SDH Networks LISLE, I11., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB - news) today announced the TITAN 4500GS global services delivery system, a flexible platform that enables service providers to seamlessly deliver high-bandwidth, global services over both Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) access networks. The TITAN 4500GS system serves as a gateway to deliver global services intact from a SONET to an SDH environment, or vice-versa, without conversion to an asynchronous format in the access network. Examples of these services include digital private line, cable data and telephony, video, Frame Relay, ATM and Internet services. ''As global commerce increases, particularly with Internet traffic doubling every one hundred days, the demand for global services delivery is exploding,'' said Robert Rosenberg, president of The Insight Research Corporation, a telecommunications industry research firm based in Parsippany, N.J. ''Tellabs' TITAN 4500GS system is one example of access network equipment that enables operators to meet their global service demands in both SONET and SDH environments.'' Tellabs' global expertise enabled the development of the TITAN 4500GS system as a single platform that can be deployed in both SONET and SDH environments. Further, key features from the TITAN family of digital cross-connect systems have been incorporated into the TITAN 4500GS system: manageability, reliability and scalability. Through the SONET/SDH data communications channel (DCC), the TITAN 4500GS system enables end-to-end provisioning and performance monitoring in the SONET/SDH domain. Redundancy of common equipment, optics and service interfaces provides industry-leading levels of availability. And, this network element can be expanded simply and economically without service interruption as demand for global services increases. These features make the TITAN 4500GS system the most flexible platform for global network operators, who can deliver highly reliable end-to-end services because they own both ends of the circuit. They can quickly and cost-effectively deliver DS1 (1.5 Mbps), E1 (2 Mbps), E3 (34 Mbps) and DS3 (45 Mbps) digital services over SONET OC-3 and SDH STM-1 (155 Mbps) protected fiber optic rings. The system also supports OC-12/STM-4 (622 Mbps) in-service upgrades. Typical applications of the TITAN 4500GS system include E1 private-line services between North America and the rest of the world, and DS3 interconnect services for Internet service provider traffic within Europe. In addition to global network operators, the TITAN 4500GS system helps incumbent operators maintain their competitive edge by serving global business users with protected high-speed services. And, the system enables alternate operators to enter into new markets and compete quickly with a global services portfolio. ''Tellabs' TITAN 4500GS system enables our service provider customers to cost-effectively deliver global services to their users,'' said Brian J. Jackman, President of Global Systems and Technology at Tellabs. ''The flexible TITAN 4500GS platform matches our customers' requirements for global services delivery, namely high reliability and availability.'' The initial release of the TITAN 4500GS system will be available in May. It provides up to 84 DS1s, 63 E1s, 3 DS3s, or a combination of these interfaces -- up to the full capacity of an OC-3 or STM-1 network facility -- to be configured in a single rack-mountable shelf. E3 interfaces will be added in the third quarter. A PC-based CraftStation program is included to manage the platform through a graphical user interface. Tellabs designs, manufactures, markets and services voice and data transport and network access systems. The company's products are used worldwide by the providers of communications services. Tellabs stock is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market (TLAB). Tellabs, the Tellabs logo and TITAN are registered trademarks of Tellabs Operations, Inc. in the United States and/or in other countries.
