I agree with you. Another reason why a company must enforce its TM is because one can renew a TM, e.g. Pentium, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, etc... However, a patent term is decided either 17 years from date of issuance (for all patent applications filed before some date in June, 1995) and from 20 years from date of filing.

This is precisely the reason why when you order a Coke, the attendant will say, we don't serve Coke, but Pepsi?
