<<The thread has probably already covered this, but what is the relationship between MRVC and New Access other than "equity funding" "expensed as R&D". Anyone know the details, and if not, why won't the company say more? >>

I think there are several synergies here. I'll number them so we can discuss them.

1) MRV Lightwave components in New Access boxes and perhaps some NBase components too.

2) Combination sales opportunities with NBase/Xyplex for supporting Network gear to New Access customers.

3) Inside information (both ways) of future technologies

4) MRVC gets close to 50% of New Access for well under $3 million. This could be a GREAT deal for them if NewAccess succeeds. Why would New Access do this? I think they get to tap into MRVC's engineering, R&D and probably sales and marketing, perhaps even warehousing and shipping too, so they don't have to build their own infrastructure, which is very expensive. This allows New Access to concentrate on their new products and markets.

5) It is not clear to me if New Access will use MRVC's sales force and gain access to their existing customer base, but it would seem to make sense. The same with Kempton Communications and Charlotte's Web.

6) Others?

These are all guesses as MRVC isn't talking much.
