not to turn this into a mutal admiration contest but i agree with every word you wrote.many "ordinary" businesses will function better due to internet innovations and many(most?) .com companies will NEVER make any money so the trick will be to find the right ones at the right prices.imo.

This conversation has gotten some meat on it finally. T'guy, I like the way you've gotten to the core of it. What's efficiently distributed on-line is information....not tractors, books, clothes, hard goods, etc. If a hard goods seller could charge for giving out on-line information, that web site could become a profit center, but there's a zero chance of that happening. (Would we pay for searching Amazon?) We do pay for using SI, and gladly. Advertisers will pay for access to us. That's why, to me, AOL makes sense, Amazon does not.
Perhaps this is simplistic. Further comments anyone?
