-jmwalsh, This post talks about some numbers for cable modems.....

techstocks.com:80/~wsapi/investor/reply-8459687

CMTO- has shipped 97,000 modems TOTAL through Q4 98....
Installed base of 5.2 million in 2002.....
Loosing money....

Compare these numbers to the numbers in the recent C Adams piece that JR just put up. Makes CUBE/DIVI look like the far better play in competing for a slice of a much bigger prize

On the Harmonic thread (they are dropping Lightwaves from their name) they
see their future in cable bandwidth and have an article mentioning the MediaOne merger....

Research analyst Tom Rhinelander, noting that Comcast and MediaOne own sizable
chunks of cable-modem leaders At Home (ATHM) and Road Runner, respectively,
predicts flatly that the two cable-modem players will unite their marketing and
technology investments. If they do, Boyd argues, "pure demand" will flow to Harmonic's
bandwidth services.

Both CMTO and Harmonic needed tor raise more capital and have/will do secondaries, maybe CUBE/DIVI should put some $$ into each one? Just own a piece of them in case they want to go in those directions....what do you think; Would it work for DIVI to get involved with digital video AND bandwidth?
