no!!!! don't go to e-trade for day trading, at all.
1) they don't notify you if you're in, on a good day, til 1 minute after; i've been 'notified' up to 120 minutes later.
2) there are times that i (and others) have been told we're in a trade, and then had it rescinded - not because of anything we did.

e-trade is best used for passive investors.

Re: "We were considering E*Trade but it doesn't look like most of you have much good to say about them."

Do you see the title of this thread???? Of course there is nothing said here that is good about E trade. I have had on line accounts at Ameritrade, Schwab, E trade, and Accutrade. None of these are for daytrading, period. With that said, I find E trade the best overall. I wouldn't send anyone short of someone I hate to Ameritrade. As you said Schwab is more costly, same with Accutrade.

Also I might add that E trade pays a decent rate on cash in your account but as a daytrader you might not let the cash set idle for very long. Apples to apples Ameritrade was giving me 3.0% while E trade was giving me 4.7%.

good luck,
jim

No web-based broker will be fast enough for day-trading. Get a direct link, if you're serious about trading.
