pompsander, Is it really possible for there to be chip design changes done in February with
major production needed in July to provide Sept/Oct. box shipments? Seems
dangerous to a novice like me.

It is possible, as long as the chip change is not a "melt and repour". What was it? Chip turnaround times can go remarkably fast.
