Sea Launch sucessful ! . . .

Tonight's launch of the Zenit 3-SL from a floating platform in the South Pacific was successful. The dummy satellite was placed into a geosynchronous transfer orbit a little over one hour after launch. The webcast from Boeing was excellent, with very good video and audio quality.
It looks like we now have a viable new launch service provider. We can probably expect Loral to put up some GEO sats with Sea Launch in 2000 and beyond. The main difference between this Zenit and the one used by G* is the addition of a Block DM third stage, which is also used on the Proton.
This successful launch is another step in restoring confidence in the commercial space business. Good news for all.
