Real is the market and technology leader, with over 90% of the streamed media server (and player) market. They have a substantial lead over MSFT and MSFT, frankly, is not making it a big development focus right now, according to people I know in the company. Perhaps the DOJ effect in play. RNWK does have significant strategic alliances with a number of big net players, including AOL, @Home, Excite, and others, to make RealPlayer an integrated part of their services. I see nothing but upside for RNWK and I have been long since the IPO.

RNWK has partnered with Intel, AOL, @Home, Macromedia, and several others. Sounds like "powerful friends" to me. They have 85% (at least) of the streaming media market, which will only get better with time.
