Not too long ago the www was the territory of academicians. Then something changed. the access to the web became easier, the pc became ubiquotous faster and more powerful, browsers evolved and then wan and lans proliferated. business didn't hit the www til recently [relative term] some said it would go the way of the cb radio [a phad] for the few. so far it is a hell of a fad. the net has allowed the sharing of information and thought in a way that i never dreamed i would have immediate access to as a kid. now it is creating a new space/medium for business to compete in. What is new/ valuable; where are we going? Ask the masses:the isps, portals, search engines, retailers that offer broad variety at discount to mortar retailers they are growing at phenomenal rates yahoo. Why are Paul Allen and Bill Gates investing in content and cable. To me it seems apparent that you place your bets where you see things moving to. edgar-online.com edgar-online.com The value of the www is information, connectivity, and efficiency. what is next. As i sit at my mac [age clue] and type, i am watching CNN news over the cable. Why? pictures/video. That is where imo we are headed. The web lacks broadband for most of us. This is all changing. the rollout of cable dsl services to the masses is underway. those who provide the best content channels, deliver the best quality video stream, will be the next big winners. So that is why I am betting on gnet, cnet,zd,unewy, itvu...look at msft {]ie5} new browser with audio button for listening/ whistling while you work [streaming audio from itvu], vdat a production and video content company developed by old tv/nfl execs and backed by BG/ Deluca and others etc. it seems clear that cable/media guys think that broadband access will offer the convergence of the boxes tv.pc. The owners of the cable will need content. who has it and who can deliver it to the broadband box of the future imo will win. That is why i bet on gnet early on. I liked what they were doing here and with there other properties. how much will zd be worth once they get tv and all those magazines on the www complete with video to the net. Miller freeman unewy vdat prnews cnn msft/nbc/ dis-abc even the lumbering cbs sees it coming. The clear winners to me are not the retailers unless they sell something proprietary; the clear winners are those who offer content that appeals to the masses that is readily available from their chair and box. time will tell but from where i sit [don't go there:))] i think that the next year or two will help give a glimpse of how we will communicate. look for example at a compaany idtc. right now you can download s/w and talk to anyone with a pc or phone for next to nothing it or something like it will be on everyones browser look at netscape//aol announcement "Netscape and Net2Phone Sign Global Distribution AgreementCompanies to Deliver Low Cost PC-to-Phone Service Enabling Millions. To Instantly Place Calls From a Computer to any Telephone in the World" ip, /x/v/h/ dsl, cable, content, video producers of content, and those with a unique product or distribution model that allows them to effectively compete will win imo. always opinionated never wrong but sometimes a hundred years early. prove me wrong:)) Norden
