It is true enough that the evidence suggests that Buddhism started out as an elite religion depending upon the discipline of its practitioners, but both Judaism and Christianity were always popular religions, the first explicitly built around a sacrificial cult upheld by the Levite priesthood, the second built around the Eucharist, also upheld by a priesthood. There is no evidence that either had a non- cultic form."
