Microsoft to Begin Trials of High-Speed Internet Access Monday

Redmond, Washington, March 27 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. will begin trials Monday of its new high-speed digital line for Internet access, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported. The new service, which will debut in Seattle and Atlanta Monday, will provide Internet access at speeds of as much as 200 times faster than a typical telephone modem. Microsoft's new service, which uses traditional telephone lines rather than television cable or fiber-optic cable, later will be unveiled in Chicago and San Diego and eventually in at least 20 major U.S. cities later in the year, the paper reported.

Microsoft is expected to unveil Monday a reorganization of its businesses into four groups, which will be led by five executives to be promoted from within the company, an analyst said. (SPI 3/27 B3)
