Orion 1 was to have an extensive revenue producing VSAT business. Most of that VSAT growth was to come from SE Asia, not Europe. The economic collapse of SE Asia ended that. Orion 1 had to go look for new business as a result. That accounts for the very serious Orion 1 shortfall in relation to the November 1997 estimates.

Huh? What am I missing here? Orion 1 does not have any transponders dedicated to SE Asia--Europe and US only. The VSAT growth was to come from Europe as I understood Mr. Schwartz, and what I understood from talking with Yoel Gat at Gilat. Orion didn't get it. Gilat did. Very plain to see, but that business is being replaced with ISP traffic(another high margin biz).

As for the other comments, I appreciate the input. I may continue to disagree, but the discussion is always helpful. This is "water under the bridge" now. What is important is the future.

RMiethe,

First let me say thanks for your thoughtful contributions; I believe you said a few weeks ago (your post 5434) that you had little to offer: Your remarks of the last few days show you know a lot and have quite thoughtful opinions, so please continue to share them!

Regarding Orion 1, I don't see how Asia effected it as it's over the Atlantic.

Regarding the T6 and T7 delays, it has to be noted that those were due to problems internal to Loral (and its component suppliers) not launch vehicle failures or problems at Hughes.

I agree with you that a lot (2-3 months) of the G* delay was due to the TSA as opposed to lack of a backup plan.

As far as the Nov97 "overpromises" I guess the main question is whether the basic premise of the business plan is still intact; I can live with a six to twelve month delay versus the plan, if the rev's, EBITDA and eventually earnings start to ramp up at something close to the forecast rate. It seems like they should...in a few more quarters we will know.

Regards,

RS
