>>I also believe that the dow will go below 7,600 before the end of the year.<<

If the money you believe will be exiting the stock market goes into money market instruments, shouldn't we expect very low interest rates? Could give those investors itchy fingers to press the "buy" button in their browsers and take a chance on equities.

If the money goes into gold, we'd better get a corresponding jump in inflation to make the gold bugs feel safe. Also, the revolution in manufacturing efficiency and technology that we've experienced should fail somewhat and allow products to rise in price without any market efficiencies to hold them in check. Of course this may cause profits to rise and the goldbuggers may be tempted to sell some gold and put it into equities.

If the money goes into real estate, the sellers should expect the time on the market to stretch way out as already fully valued properties get overpriced.

If the money goes into foreign markets, they'd better learn to compete with our manufacturing efficiencies so the investors aren't tempted to pull some of it back home.

And those awful 401K's that just keep pumping more and more money into retirement funds should be outlawed! Look what they've done to the S&P500!

Just where is that money to go? Heaven forbid that it would find new ventures to finance. What we need is good old 14% fixed income investments. Anybody know if Jimmy Carter is game for another campaign?

Interesting post.
I would like to go on the record with the following:

I think VLNC will be below $4 before the end of 1999; and

I also believe that the dow will go below 7,600 before the end of the year.

Just wanted this on the record.
