Yes, it is a matter of perspective. However, are we in this for philosophical reasons: (how many professors can dance on the head of a pin without hurting themselves too badly? Sorry, but I didn't get that part!), or are we investors trying to make a return? What's your point?

Yes and no. The best index of POG in relation to a basket of the strongest currencies is gold price, as measured in SDRs. Check out
pacific.commerce.ubc.ca

And you will see that, although the gold price in SDRs did make a sharp upturn recently, it has fallen back quite sharply and is now near the bottom value for the year. In time, however, it may make a "double bottom", but we will have to wait for that.
