EMC, IMO, should stay away from considering any magnetic storage component company, like Seagate, APM, etc. Why get down into the trenches with these low margin commodity product companies? I'd much rather stay up with the state of the art by going with IBM as a "co-petitor" or whatever that new term is. IBM leads all in R&D. Best of all worlds to me is IBM goes through the expensive development, and EMC rolls it out in their products.

I think EMC is happy they've "discovered" value added software to help the bottom line. Last time I saw Ruettgers on TV, he seemed most proud of EMC's software growth. BTW, Seagate is still almost 2X EMC in revenues, although likely this will reverse in a few years. APM is real small, so wouldn't be a big drag, if there's a good technology fit.

Just my musings.
