They have nifty little file servers now the fit right on your LAN that are stand alone, they don't need any software or even a computer to run. The price isn't nifty quite yet, except maybe for the small business market looking for storage without having to buy a big server.
The only company that I know that is really trying to tie in the digital media to your tv/stereo/video/WebTV is, the company that everyone loves or hates, Iomega. They are really making the push to have their removeables on every type of home device. Mostly the Zips and the Clik drives.
