David -

Thanks for posting that.

It was obvious to me that Ditto had become less and less viable each year, and I was sure that was why management had decided to sell the Ditto line. I'm glad to see that confirmed.

It wouldn't make much sense for them to sell a cash cow, would it? But selling a money loser is a good idea. Clear the decks for the growth products.

And speaking of cash cows . . . I always like to check out the New York Times Money & Business section on Sunday mornings. The first thing I look at is the J&R Computer World ad, which takes up the whole back page of the section.

In today's ad, right in the center is a box headlined "New Low Prices from Iomega!" It features the Zip parallel and SCSI models at 99.99, and the USB Zip for 129.99. Interestingly, it also shows prices for single Zip disks, either Mac or PC format, of 9.99.

Iomega's market research has shown that there is tremendous demand elasticity at these price points. I believe that this bodes well for the rest of this year.

Meanwhile, on page 2 of the section, there's a little story about James Martin, a business consultant, and the fiberglass case he carries, filled with two IBM Thinkpads, and 10 gigabytes of data he uses for presentations. I like this part: "He arms the computers with 10 billion bytes of data - 100 times as much material, he says, as the total output of Shakespeare - compressed onto five Jaz disks."

Take from this information and opinion what you will.

- Allen
