What was that epithet of yours, NT sucks?

NT is going nowhere in the digital design world.

Looks like it might be "good enough" because the hardware it runs on is so much cheaper than is RISC hardware.

How about Linux?

Sony's Beta catastrophe shows how a company can lose a lead by not licensing the technology, and force someone else (JVC) to come up with an acceptable alternative (VHS) that, widely licensed, becomes the new standard. Intel's early (but reluctant) licensing of x86 was essential to x86 standardization. IBM insisted on Intel proving second source availability as a condition of using 8086 (or in practice, 8088).
