I do not know the answers to your questions. However, it often is not a matter of shorting by the holders to obtain better terms - which the
convertible sometimes prohibits.

The convertible buyer is often someone with an existing position in the common. They can knock the price down just by selling their existing common holding.

Also, the presence of these kinds of convertibles often attract third party shorts because of the poor condition of the company and the snowballing effect a decline of the common has because of the presence of the convertible.
