Actually we are embraced in agreement on this one, scary thought, no? Regarding dumb that is. This is actually quite parallel to the JFK/LBJ fiasco, started for an otherwise "noble" intention, dumb at the outset maybe even dumber at the finish. However, I think there is more here than meets the eye. This provides a low grade way to exercise the muscle of an expanded NATO, team-building so-to-speak, focuses the remnant of the USSR in order to (yes) resurrect the balancing bipolarity thats been missing since its collapse, keeps the front line out of the plains of Eastern Europe where according to old military planning the Soviets would have had an initial invasionary advantage, and rights the wrongs of Serbian atrocities. I don't see this as yet another wag-the-dog distraction for billy boy though it did do a fine job of distracting somewhat from the unwanted focus on Chinagate lately but I wouldn't put it past him to let it fester into the end of his term as a potential means for some sort of salvation. God help us. Positive outcome? Since when did rationality become a criteria for anything political? In the distance I hear the creaking of the gears of a mighty and vast military-industrial complex someone once warned us about coming to life as the engines surge forward. <<That would be an operation as large, complex, and expensive as Desert Storm, in some ways more so, as amphibious operations would be required. That kind of deployment will take months, and it hasn't even started. >> Precisely. Or would you rather have worldwide deflation/depression? Certainly Rodney King's appeal isn't viable here.
