What about the opening of Windows source as a proposed settlement from the states? Anyone have a take on this one yet? MSFT would rather take its own life than allow this to occur but if they do not feel they can win an appeal it may become attractive. Everyone check out www.98lite.net to see what WIN98 with a sleeker shell looks and acts like. System resources go way back up and performance, even on MSFT's products, is definitely snappier. I did read a scenario whereby MSFT actually comes out with a MSFT approved WINDOWS product after opening it up and thereby blunts DOJ's intent. :-( On the other hand, can you imagine what a consortium of companies like Red Hat, Novell, Sun, IBM, and Oracle could do with that type of settlement. It sends shivers down my spine to think about the potential for eradication of the GPF.
