VLAD, not a bad idea! Merrill Lynch issued a bullish outlook on the OS sector in January- so they did pretty well I believe..

Headlines from the "Oil & Gas Report" in today's Midland Telegram:

"Oil Production at Lowest level in 50 Years"- US production below 6mm bbls/day for the first time since WWII- imports up 11% to 10.6 mm bbls/day.

Big drop was in Alaska production down 14% to 1.096 mm bbls/day- lower 48 only 5% drop from 5.1 to 4.8 mm bbls/day.

Rig count in US onshore/offshore now down to 515 rigs- 180 rigs also active in Canada.

Guys/Gals-Remember my calculations on replacement of gas reserves in North America a couple of days ago? There's now 11 less rigs running.....

Also in Venenzuela, Chavez is appointing all of his ex-military buddies to run PDVSA. trouble is, they have no oil & gas experience....See how that pans out....

VLAD (OT) Watched Moscow television this morning at 6:00 am- they had the Commander of the Russian Air Force on. He said that Yugoslavian Air defenses had done OK so far, but will do better shortly.

I am assuming that he is referring to the fact that if the NATO forces intend to attack ground forces in Kosovo, then they will have to fly in "low and slow" to hit the targets. I assume that is what the Yugoslavians have been holding back their surface-to-air missiles for...

As to the crashed F-117 Stealth Fighter, Moscow television said that it was "brought down by a missile". Strange too- Yugoslavia knows that NATO forces are flying out of Aviano Air base in Italy. I'm surprised that the Serbs have not sent a couple of guys over there with shoulder fired simple heat seeking missiles to hit NATO planes which are either sortying or returning from sorties.

The eastern Italian Coastline is the prime dropping ground for illegal immigrants from the Middle East/SW Asia headed to Europe- might the Yugoslavians work that avenue of ingress?

In WWII I believe that the Allies failed to shoot down a single ME-262 Jet Fighter in high altitude combat. What we did was to attack the ME-262's when they were either landing or taking off- catch them when they have to fly low, slow, and straight.

Also as to the crashed F-117 Stealth Fighter- want to bet that it is already on a train back to Moscow for inspection? I bet it is. Also why can't stealth technology be incorporated into intercontinental ballistic missiles? Have we already done that? Will Russia do that now? Then sell the secrets to others?

Next Moscow Television showed Ukranian Government Officials in Belgrad today offering to broker a deal for Yugoslavia and also urging the Yugoslavians to "hang tough". Perhaps some secret deals on material aide were struck-who knows.

Finally Moscow televison showed Russian Nationalists siging up Russian Volunteers to fight in the Balkans. Interestingly the entire poltical spectrum in Russia condemns the NATO attacks- the Communists on the left, the nationalists in the center, and the democrats and free market advocates on the right.

So take heed- watch out for oil company investments in Russia. Something tells me that they won't be faring too well over the near term....

Strange- President Clinton says that an air war cannot resolve the issue-I agree- it is just like poking a scorpion with a stick- the scorpion just gets more furious and aggressive. The answer lies 100 miles away in Bosnia-the SFOR Forces. If we are serious in intervening into a civil war then move the UN ground troops in Bosnia into Kosovo-it's as simple as that... Jesus, in this Holy Week, if you have any ideas on what's the right thing is to do in the Balkans to create a just and lasting peace please send them on to someone connected to this sorry, sorry situation so that we can stop the murders in Kosovo and end the bombing too....
