the construction of a stock market information paging network in China.
Fujian Province Telecom Paging Company Ltd. will launch its service in June on

"Fujian is the first province in China to build a province-wide paging

Alliance

Company Supports Initiatives to Advance ReFLEX for Short Messaging
Applications in PDAs

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wireless Access Group of
Glenayre Technologies (NASDAQ:GEMS), today announced that it has joined
10 other companies, including paging carriers and manufacturers, in an
industry alliance dedicated to advancing the ReFLEX(TM) communications
technology for personal digital assistants (PDA). The Personal Communicator
Wireless Alliance will work with PDA manufacturers to bring two-way wireless
messaging to consumers in a variety of small devices.
"We've demonstrated how productive and convenient two-way wireless
messaging can be," said Gary Hermansen, president and general manager of
Glenayre's Wireless Access Group. "The ability to send and receive messages
from pager to pager or from Internet email addresses has caught on quickly,
especially among business professionals. In fact, our AccessLink(TM) device
was the first ReFLEX-based product on the market to offer such capabilities.
We believe our expertise in this area will help PDA manufacturers create
applications that will have true value-add for their customers."
The alliance, in addition to working with PDA manufacturers, is committed
to supporting open architectures based on Internet standards. The goal is to
allow ReFLEX-based PDAs to communicate with each other across many different
networks. This way the consumer will have seamless operation from carrier to
carrier. In another example of supporting an open environment, the alliance
will help enable two-way messaging for a variety of operating systems such as
the Palm OS or Windows CE, again providing consumers with their operating
system of choice.
The alliance believes the ReFLEX protocol will create the greatest
opportunity for PDA manufacturers to enhance their products because of its
superior performance. For instance, systems based on the ReFLEX protocol have
better in-building performance compared to other wireless data networks;
automatically correct garbled transmissions; store and forward messages if the
device is turned off or out of range; and has a wider coverage area.
