I visited Wien just a few months ago, still in love with the Kunthistorische right by the Maria Therese Plaza. Stayed at the Imperial (very difficult to decide among the Imperial, Palais Schwarzenberg, Bristol and the Sacher), magnificently opulent in a phenomenal city-center location. Executive chef Stefan Hierzer's (may not be the right spelling) nouvelle Austrian cuisine was particularly evocative.

Generally speaking though, I often wonder why a country that offers the world such breathtaking pastry pays so little attention to improve on a mediocre culinary lineage.
