Lynn, "OT" Send your Easter duck to JDN. He lives near the ocean. I like my "c". Who else would sit in the pile of papers littered over my living room floor and flirt, purr and roll-over for me to pet his tummy. I'm trying to do my taxes!!! I looked all day for records from my mom. She'll buy CDs in my name without telling me. SO at end of year, she sends receipt for tax purposes. She got us out of bed at 6:30 AM this morning to tell us about, "Melissa". I don't know why she would think that we would not know. Yeah for Sun! The Dataquest report shows that Oracle now holds a commanding 46.1% of the Windows NT market, with 55% growth in 1998, compared to only 12% growth for Microsoft. Microsoft's NT marketshare declined significantly, according to the report down to 29.7% in 1998 from 37.8% in 1997. This is the third consecutive year that Oracle has gained marketshare over Microsoft on their own platform, according to Dataquest. ''These numbers show that we have opened the gap considerably over Microsoft on their own platform,'' said Chuck Rozwat, senior vice president of Oracle's Server Technology division. ''Customers are overwhelmingly choosing Oracle on NT over Microsoft because Oracle's core focus on scalability, reliability and availability are vital considerations for any company doing business on the Internet.'' On UNIX platforms, Oracle remained the undisputed leader, with 60.9% of the market, according to Dataquest. Informix followed in a distant second with 13.2%, while IBM and Sybase brought up the rear with 7.3% and 7.1% respectively. Significantly, IBM's goal of becoming an open database supplier continues to be unsuccessful. According to the report, IBM has less than 9% of the combined UNIX/NT market. Even on IBM's own UNIX platform, Oracle outsells IBM DB2 by almost two to one. Microsoft still has no RDBMS product available for the open systems UNIX platform. Strong Growth in Database Market Fueled by the Internet According to Dataquest, the overall market for new database (DBMS) licenses, which reached $7.1 billion in 1998, grew a robust 15%, driven largely by demand for Internet applications, electronic commerce, and data warehousing. Dataquest predicted the overall DBMS market would grow to $10 billion by 2003. Oracle Corporation is the world's leading supplier of software for information management, and the world's second largest independent software company. With annual revenues of more than $8.3 billion, the company offers its database, tools and application products, along with related consulting, education, and support services, in more than 145 countries around the world.
