Teflon: Who cares if its true this puts MSN and MSFT at the leading edge and should help them attract customers and increased revenues to the MSN site. If it were available in my rural area (which it won't be for some while) I would jump on it. I wonder how big a video pesentation it can support at broadcast quality?

I'm not sure where the story's headline of "30 times faster" comes from, unless MSN is offering very fast lines at much lower prices than others. The story states "MSN(TM) Internet Access DSL provides consumers with Web access at speeds of up to 8 MB per second". That's 1mbps faster than what USWest offers in Seattle right now:

"three U S WEST MegaBit high-speed options: 1 Mbps downstream/1 Mbps upstream; 4 Mbps downstream/1 Mbps upstream access; and 7 Mbps downstream/1 Mbps upstream access."

The difference may be that those speeds from USWest are expensive. A standard residential DSL line from USWest is 256kbps up/down and costs about $60/month. MSN might be offering the very fast speeds at lower cost (which would be great if it drives down my current DSL line).

Here's the USWest page for an example of what competitors in Seattle offer:

In looking for more info on the MSN offering, I did come across this interesting summary of DSL:
