I think you have been totally correct in assigning a lot of weight to short covering as an explanation for amzn moves. I am so surprised that the gap up had no follow-through. The only explanation is there is no short squeeze at this level. Now it seems all the action is day trading. Neither consistent buying nor selling. I think now nasdaq index is propping up amzn. If that were to turn down, the I think the gap will evaporate.
