mohan..re cpq sales channels...

cpq has established a caste system when it comes to service...recently had hard drive crash in my out of warranty armada lap top...was screened by cpq tech support to determine i was a "business user"...when i queried the action they boldly stated that presario and prosignia are being handed off to vars for tech service...to make a long story short, cpq repaired my out of warranty free of charge...even got follow up calls to see if i was satisfied...don't understand 5fer direction(same reason i sold my cpq shares).....sort of a divided kingdom approach...ed a.

p.s...my ex is a mis executive for a fortune 500 company...they were all cpq armada users...many problems..look to replace their "fleet" with toshiba or dell laptops...

The more interesting announcement today, IMO, was that CPQ will have distributers such as IM and TECD build the machines to a customer's order.

Keep in mind that while large corporate customers like to buy direct, many small and medium sized businesses tend to prefer buying at retail. There is a convenience factor involved. CPQ estimates that "as many as 16% of small business customers like the convenience of buying at a retail store."

Mohan, every time 5fer tries to cross the road to the direct side he gets run over by an 18 wheeler loaded with Dells.
Cheers
Mike

Remember this?
"Luciano:If you remember Dell's selective use of channels intensified somewhat when Compaq and others announced that they would try and muscle their way into Dell territory (aka 'emulating the Dell model').This hybrid model being adopted by CPQ and others infuriated may dedicated channels and Dell promptly decided to take advantage of this opportunity.
It is like this, when someone attacks your territory you not only defend your territory with all your might but you mount a counter offensive and hit hard especially you hit at where the enemy has just created a weak point,in this case the pissed of channels. That is the way I see it."
