China's Chongqing Mobile Communications
Chooses Glenayre's Enhanced Services
Solution

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news)
today announced that it has received a multi-million dollar contract to supply the Glenayre enhanced
services and integrated short message solution to Chongqing Telecom Mobile Communications of China.
The order was received through Bondfield Communications & Network Limited, a distributor of
Glenayre equipment in China. With 30 million residents, Chongqing, located in Southwest China, is the
largest city in China and economically ranks among China's top cities.

Under the terms of the contract, the Glenayre MVP® modular voice processing system and short
message service will be integrated into Chongqing Telecom Mobile's GSM network to offer
state-of-the-art messaging features. Chongqing Telecom Mobile expects to expand their subscriber base to
more than one million subscribers within the next two years.

Enhanced services available through the Glenayre platform will include voice, fax, text and unified
messaging, as well as features such as outdialing from the voice mailbox and a single number service.
Glenayre's web server allows users to access their text, voice and fax via the Internet.

Glenayre's integrated short message service enables subscribers to receive text messages through their
wireless handset. Subscribers are assured they will receive their important messages, even if their phone is
turned off. Glenayre's MVP system stores the message until the phone is turned on and the message is
successfully delivered. The MVP system is part of the Intelligis product family from the Glenayre
Integrated Network Group.

''We are impressed by the enhanced services capabilities provided by the MVP platform. Features like
CONSTANT TOUCH(TM), Direct Dial from the voice mailbox and Unified Messaging can differentiate
Chongqing Telecom Mobile as a leading GSM operator in China,'' said Mr. Qin Da Bin, director of
Chongqing Mobile Bureau.

''Glenayre's Intelligis product line is a perfect match with Bondfield's business direction of developing
value-added services in China telecom networks,'' said Stephen Lai, managing director of Bondfield
Communications. ''We plan to use Glenayre's enhanced services platform to create a unified messaging
environment linking heterogeneous networks like mobile, paging, Internet, satellite and fixed networks in
China.''

''We look forward to working closely with Chongqing Telecom Mobile to bring the best enhanced mobile
services to the people in China,'' said Daniel Liew, senior director of the Glenayre Integrated Network
Group in Asia Pacific. ''The new policies of the central government of the People's Republic of China are
aimed at developing Chongqing into the regional hub of China's southwest region. Subsequently, there are
new business drivers for more differentiated enhanced services for mobile subscribers in the GSM
network.''

''Chongqing Telecom Mobile's choice of Glenayre's MVP system for its GSM network demonstrates its
confidence and satisfaction with our products and support,'' said Warren Neuburger, president and
general manager of the Glenayre Integrated Network Group. ''Glenayre believes the opportunity for
enhanced services is very strong in the Pacific Rim and we are making significant investments in
resources.''

For over 30 years, Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news) has been developing and
providing leading edge personal telecommunication systems. Glenayre's enhanced services solutions
