OT: My new box 'o 3d luv: Why the K7 instead of P3? Because the K7 will whup P3's butt, esp. in FPU performance. (With or without 3dNOW!) I'm kinda curious whose advice you're going with on this. Anandtech? Super7? Tom's? Who's Tom? I keep my own council, thank you. Got the low-down on K7 at Immersion '99. I've heard a rumor about a new DVD standard coming out shortly. You might want to consider waiting for that. Why not. I've got to wait for the K7 anyway. I hope AMD ships on time for once. I've found watching DVD movies from the computer pretty pointless. (I do use the TV-out from my decoder card though.) Don't have a Phillips plasma screen do you? The wife and I are kicking around the idea of putting the K7 in the living room. 200Mhz SDRAM? Are you buying this around Xmas? This is standard fare for the K7. As far as I know rollout for K7 is still on track for June and that includes the RAM. Funny that you're getting the SBLive for NT support after all the NT problems they initially had. (www.planetquake.com/gldojo) Egad! Maybe the MX300? Since you're not averse to shelling out $$$, why the IDE Raid? Better performance using high-end SCSI. Hey, I have my limits. I initially wanted to go with SCSI (I currently use a 9.1 GB Seagate Cheetah), but SCSI is a pain in the ass to configure and is expensive. I figured I can get almost double the sustained transfer rate for less money than a single SCSI drive of the same size. RAID SCSI cards are in the $400-$500 dollar range. I can get 24 MB of dual IDE lovin' with the $60 promise raid card for the price of the SCSI raid card alone. If I want to increase transfer rate, I just slap on another drive. It's hard drive SLI! In fact, I'd recommend the Asus P2BLS as an excellent Slot 1 motherboard. ~$330 with LAN, SCSI Ultra FW and BX chip support. Yeh, I got the P2B LX version. Same stuff. No thanks. Not sure of an equivalent Super 7 MB. Super 7? I don't need no stinkin' super 7. Gimme a real MB. Pat
