I find it hard to imagine that any competent domestic court of law would put forth such a ruling as long as the -carrier- of the message is absent malice.

But Furniss said if comparable comments had been made to Godfrey in a restaurant, he would not be suing the restaurant owner for defamation.

Indeed. Eventually, common sense will prevail.
