Lucent Technologies Signs TDMA Contract With Telecom Italia Mobile In Brazil
SAO PAULO, Brazil--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1999--Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU - news) today announced that it has signed a R$50 Million (US$36 Million) contract with Telecelular Sul, a subsidiary of Telecom Italia Mobile in Brazil, to expand the existing digital and analog networks in the state of Parana.
The network will support 225,000 digital mobile customers and 165,000 analog mobile phone users in the expanding markets in Curitiba, including the greater Curitiba Area and the cities along Parana seashores. The expansion will be concluded by the end of this year.
The new network will be based on Lucent's advanced wireless phone system, the Autoplex® 1000, with Series II radio-based stations and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) technology, which works in conjunction with Lucent's 5ESS® switching platform. The sale includes Lucent's technical support and assistance.

Who's going to benefit the most from China's CDMA wireless plan?

Does LU has any CDMA technology? Probably, QCOM(Qualcomm), its stock
has been up +25% in only three trading sessions. That's what I
call a pop in stock. Another "poper" high-tech stock is SUNW
(Sun Microsystem). Of course, I am not talking about thoese
Internet stocks and PLAT (will be acquired by Computer Associates).
