To all: I have been scanning through old news for any connections with Sun. Some of Ancor's OEMS are tied in as well. Are these alliances relevant these days? COMDEX Fall '97 & Networld & Interop 97 On the storage side, the switch will connect a Sun server and Jaycor adapter to a Unisys OSM public loop of Seagate Cheetah disks. The first area of this demo highlights Fibre Channel arbitrated loop connectivity as a single MKII links a Sun UltraSparc workstation to a CLARiiON direct-attached disk subsystem and a Vixel Fibre Channel hub. You'll see the MKII transport SCSI protocol and interface with Jaycor adapters as the system moves complex fluid dynamics simulation data. From Computer Technology Review 97 Thanks to Fibre Channel's interoperability, high-performance Sun, Silicon Graphics and IBM workstations can be clustered, delivering mainframe -- or even supercomputer -- computing power at a fraction of the cost. And by using Fibre Channel to connect storage devices, users get direct, high-speed access to information without the need for an intermediary server. It's worth noting that the newest generation of Sun servers, the Ultra Enterprise( 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 family of servers, comes with a Fibre Channel port on the motherboard. November 7, 1997 Ancor Gigworks Network Powers World's Largest Telescope: Ancor GigWorks 266 switches provide the high-speed link between the 27 node parallel server AP3000 and more than 50 Sun and Silicon Graphics workstations at the Hilo Data Center, where the images will be studied and modeled by astrophysicists. November 20, 1997 The Amoco network uses a GigWorks 266 Fibre Switch to connect Sun and Silicon Graphics servers where terabytes of seismic data are stored January 5, 1998 Ancor, Litton Data Systems Penetrating Military Fibre Channel Market: These systems use Ancor's GigWorks switches and adapters to connect Sun workstations, VME-embedded workstations and voice communications switching equipment utilizing a redundant architecture designed to increase the performance and reliability necessary for tactical conditions.ancor.com April 30, 1998 Networld & Interop Las Vegas Specifically, Ancor will be demonstrating scalability, connecting GigWorks switches together in a cascaded fabric, and interoperability, by incorporating several vendors' products into the company's GigWorks solutions. A partial list includes adapter cards from Jaycor and Prisa, and storage devices from Ciprico, Seagate, Box Hill and Unisys. In addition, the back-up demonstration will be linked to the Sun Microsystems booth (2453) and the ATL Products booth (5325), located in a different exhibition hall over 600 meters away (GigWorks products can span distances up to 30 kilometers). November 13, 1998 Ancor's 8-port switch will also be showcased in IBM's FCLC booth. This demo will feature an IBM Intellistation PC with an Emulex 7000 Fibre Channel adapter attached to Ancor's MKII-8 switch. A CLARiiON JBOD with Fibre Channel public loop disks from IBM and Seagate is also connected to the switch. Ancor's eight-port switch will also be featured at the following additional booths in the FCLC room: ATTO Technology, Emulex Network Systems, QLogic, and Raidtec. Other companies providing products for Ancor's SAN demonstrations include ATTO Technology, Ciprico, Emulex Network Systems, Interphase, Raidtec, and Sun Microsystems.
