If 32bpp coulda been stuck in the current architecture, why didn't they do it from the start? If it was that complicated, then why not just put it into their next part (as originally thought)?

It could have been, and is being (if the rumor is true), put in the current architecture. Doing so makes the part available in late summer, not early spring. They stated early on V3 could have had 32 bit, but at the cost of time to market. Since they had to wait to ship V3/4k (due to Intel's delay of Camino), why not go ahead and work on the 32 bit part (and another bit on the memory bus to give 32MB max.) If it's ready before Camino, ship it, if not, drop it (since you never really said it was coming anyway, right? :)

If you view the Voodoo3 as a Banshee2, then the idea of this being a "top of the line" part with geometry acceleration becomes unlikely. If it is true that V3 4000 will render to the screen in 32 bit, then why announce it now? It would be a big mistake for obvious reasons. I suspect that with the next gen Rampage, Glide will get a big shot in the arm, due to the "fact" that it will provide the fastest and most visually impressive images. Mark my words, Glide will make a _major_ comeback. I think many people will be surprised by Rampage. What other company has the potential of 3dfx? They're (heh we are) going to make mucho dinero or become legends of failure. But that's the excitement of this stock! ;-)
