In response to a couple of your questions:

"richard, you are saying that all i need to do to convert a .txt to a .html is to add
.html as i'm saving it, right?"

Incorrect. An html file is all text based. You could easily view/edit an html file in a text editor. And if you wanted to save an html file as a text file, you could simply rename the extension because the actual file format is the same.

However, you can't simply rename a text file into an html file and expect it to be viewable as a web page. If your text file has HTML coding in it, and you want it to have an htm(html) extension, just rename and place that extension at the end. I hope that answers your question.

For your second problem..."do i need to
change something in "view" to get it to show at the end of the file name so i can
rename it?"
:

Windows Explorer by default will not show file extensions if there is a program associated with it. You have to manually turn this 'feature' off. To do so, open up View Options from the menu bar and remove the check for Hide File Extensions For Known File Types. That should work for you.

Text to HTML

Scuze me for butting in, but I tried something out and it seemed to work.

Rename text file ?.TXT to ?.HTM and open it with your browser. I use the one that came with Win98 which lets me do this with:

File | Open | Browse...

Once I'm looking at the file in my browser, which isn't pretty, I click on the Edit button, which brings up FrontPageExpress, and then I can make changes.

Hope this helps, PW.

Skeeter try this-open explorer/click on view/go to folder options/view tab/deselect hide file extensions for known file types/ click apply/click like current folder button. Now rename your file with the proper .txt, .htm,.html or whatever and see if this helps
