Sure, you can leave your door without lock. When someone robbed your house, you could complain to the door manufacture they didn't make the door security enough such that nobody can open that door.

What is really tweaking the IT professionals is that they just rebooted all the Wintel machines and thought they had a 'fresh' 46 hour cycle to get them through the weekend.
