This is a very good choice.

Solaris is a market leader, good tool support from vendors. I wish they (CAD vendors) would port to x86 Solaris or even Linux, then we could get the best price performance from standard PC workstations with UNIX OSes. Only with the recent Xeon dual or better workstations from Intel has a viable hardware base existed for serious CAD work on a "PC".

Of course you know that HPUX 10.20 is supposed to run on Merced and is binary compatible with todays CAD tools for HPUX.

A question for you relevant to INTC

As you know Intel is supporting Linux. Has your company considered using AMD or INTC processors with Linux versus using Solaris?
