amazon (amzn) - online auction is a necessary component of web etail so i view this as
additive. amazon is going after being the online commerce service and trying to come at
this as a etail portal, which it has done successfully

the challenge is margins and earnings. but with more than $1.5 billion cash from bond
offers i think amazon could be a contender for #1 etailer status which it is now (if we
don't count dell which sells $14 million/day of pcs via the web)

amazon's greatest threat, as i said when it first acquired internet movie database -- is
aol, yahoo, excite/@home

they all converge in the ecommerce space and tensions between them will rise, as will
cost to market and compete
