Probing further through his father's papers he saw a letter from the dealer, dated two weeks after his graduation. He opened and read the following ---

Dear Mr. _____

We regret to inform you that the Ferrari America you purchased for your son mysteriously exploded in our lot. Treasury agents have since determined that the explosion was unavoidable. The car had been booby trapped by Italian communist automobile worker unionists so that on the tachometer reaching 4000 rpm or on the date of the explosion, whichever came first, the automobile would automatically explode.
We enclose our check for all your costs made out to your son.
