the TDMA people are still muttering, but they have lost the war, from the input I have.

Probably true, but let's remember that CDMA as a core of the G3 technology is a long way off. Just today, Lucent was awarded a $1 billion (with a b) contract to provide hardware and services for AT&T's TDMA network.

It was a great move by QCOM to sell the handset business.

The Q did not sell their handset business. They sold their infrastructure business.
