Gottfried, While the short ratio appears historically high, it is the result of average daily volume dropping significantly. In fact, actual short interest is at a 12 month low. It has been decreasing consistently for the past seven months.

March-99 shares short were 633,833 with a ratio of 13.12 days based on average volume of 48,299.

In August-98, shares short were almost 3 times that of today at 1,804,122 with a ratio of 11.38 days based on average volume of 158,497.
