Craig,

1) Limited life

That stinks. I hope they can improve it. How does it compare with a hard disk? I don't think hard disks have unlimited re-write capability either.

2) Flash is very slow

I guess slow has 2 components. Latency, which for hard disk is 10 ms, 100ns for flash. So flash is 100 times faster. As far as throughput, I guess if it is too low, you can run a number of the flash devices in paralell. But I doubt that even an 8 bid flash device has lower throughput than a hard disk.

But as far as cost, flash is still miles away from a hard disk. It's a problem only as long as the the amount of flash you need for a typical business computer is more than $100 - $200.

I think you can have a very reasonable business computer (connected to the network) with 500 MB of storage, let's say 1 gig for "power user". Even at $1 per megabyte, flash is still too expensive. I think it needs to get to 20 to 40 cents per megabyte for me to start to buy them.
