Corel Corporation today announced a major OEM alliance, which will see Corel(r) WordPerfect(r) Suite 8 OEM bundled with every computer motherboard package shipped worldwide by the PC Chips Group of Companies. PC Chips operates in Canada through 3D Micro Computers. The alliance also calls for a joint marketing campaign, which will support the upcoming release of WordPerfect Office 2000 and Corel's graphics products and e-commerce solutions, leveraging PC Chips' global hardware reach. ''This is a phenomenal opportunity which will significantly increase the penetration of our WordPerfect productivity applications around the world,'' said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation [Nasdaq:COSFF - news]. PC Chips shipped more than 15 million motherboards in 1998 for use in computers of various brand names within its group of companies, or to third party manufacturers. According to research provided by International Data Corp., the PC Chips Group shipping levels in 1998 were greater than most major computer manufacturers, including Compaq (13 million units), IBM (8 million units), Dell Computer (7 million units), and Hewlett Packard (6 million units).
