What I usually do is set a limit way above what I think it will open at but not so much that I am buying more than I can afford. It usually costs me a couple of shares, but at least I get in in the range that I want to. I did this with a limit price of $140 this morning and got my shares around $136.

I wish I had more money to buy with because I would be buying up to $150. Just MHO.
