I'm not a big believer in these death spiral debenture stories but Zi-Corp is also listed in Canada and they have different reporting requirements. As I recall a brokerage firm needs not report a short position in an equity unless it exceeds a certain ratio to long positions. As an example if they have customers with an accumulated long position in Zi of 1,000,000 shares and they themselves are short 500,000 shares they do not need to report the short position. I forget the ratio and if it varies by exchange. Needless to say it is very difficult to track short positions on Canadian stocks. Perhaps someone with more experience in Canadian equities could clarify.
